Hot shot trucking for loads that will not wait.

Hot shot is what you use when the load is too urgent to sit and too small to justify waiting for a full trailer. It gets its own truck and it goes now. No consolidation, no hub, no other stops eating your clock.

The problem hot shot actually solves

Standard less than truckload freight is cheap because your pallets ride with everybody else's. That efficiency is paid for in time. The shipment goes to a terminal, waits to be sorted, rides to another terminal, waits again. Every one of those touches is a chance to be delayed and a chance to get damaged.

Hot shot skips all of it. Your freight is the only freight on the truck, so the transit is the drive time and nothing else. For a load that has a real deadline attached, that tradeoff usually wins.

What typically moves hot shot

  • Replacement parts and components where a machine, a line or a job site is stopped until they land.
  • Short pallet counts that are too urgent for standard service and too small to fill a trailer.
  • Recovery loads when another carrier fell through and somebody has to cover it today.
  • Job site deliveries where a crew is standing around waiting on material.

How to make a hot shot quote fast

Three things get you a rate in minutes instead of an afternoon: where it is, where it is going, and what it physically is. Weight, piece count and rough dimensions cover almost every case. If a forklift will not be available at either end, mention it up front, because that changes the equipment.

Then tell us the actual deadline rather than a comfortable one. If it truly has to be there by seven in the morning, say seven in the morning. Padding the time by half a day just means we might quote a slower option than you needed.

Hot Shot Trucking questions.

How small is too small for hot shot?
There is no real floor. If a single crate is holding up a production line, it is worth its own truck. Tell dispatch what it weighs and how big it is and we will tell you the sensible way to move it.
Can you pick up today?
Often, especially in southeast Michigan where we are based. It comes down to where the closest available truck is at that moment, so call dispatch at (734) 320-9626 and you will get a straight yes or no rather than a maybe.
What if my delivery has no loading dock?
Say so when you call. There are ways to handle it, but they change the equipment we send, and finding out at the delivery is the expensive way to learn.
