Toledo is a genuine crossroads

I-75 runs north and south through the city, carrying freight from Michigan all the way down to Florida. I-80 and I-90 run east and west along the Ohio Turnpike, which is the main line between Chicago and the East Coast. Those two crossing in one place is why so much distribution and warehousing ended up here.

For a shipper it means something useful: freight leaving Toledo has a short, clean path to almost anywhere in the eastern half of the country, and a straight run west from there.

Why a Michigan carrier is close, not far

Forty five minutes up US-23 sounds like another state because it is another state. In freight terms it is nothing. It is closer than plenty of carriers with an Ohio address on their paperwork, and closer than most trucks that would get repositioned to cover a Toledo pickup.

State lines matter for taxes and paperwork. They do not matter for how long it takes a truck to get to your dock.

What moves through here

Automotive parts and assemblies feeding the plants on both sides of the state line, glass and industrial products, warehouse and distribution freight, and a constant flow of general truckload work using Toledo as a staging point.

Expedited and hot shot work is common here too, for the same reason it is common in Detroit: a lot of this freight is feeding something that costs real money when it stops.
